These are challenging times for tertiary providers wherever in the world they are located.
National governments are seeking the best ‘value’ from diminishing public resource but are cognisant of the student voice and the need to facilitate the delivery of the best student experience possible; vital in an era of higher tuition fees.
Universities themselves are encouraged to be more entrepreneurial but face the charge of managerialism and so the steady erosion of the collegial nature of the academy. Clashes are inevitable and often the result satisfies no one – at least beyond the short term.
